Rosso di Montalcino Leopoldo Franceschi
100% Sangiovese
2014
14,50%
Estate vineyards, planted between 150 and 450 metres (490 - 1475 ft) above sea level.
Cordon spur and "doppio capovolto".
By hand
15 days "submerged cap" fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature 25/28 °C (77/82 F). Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel.
In French oak, followed by a long bottle aging.
Deep ruby red in colour, with aromas of red and dark berries, underwood and sweet spices. It is rich and complex on the palate, but elegant at the same time, with velvety tannins and a very persistant finish.
Red meats, game, mature cheeses.
A polished and fresh red with dried berry and citrus undertone. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a crisp finish. Excellent Rosso di Montalcino. Drink now.
The 2013 Rosso di Montalcino Leopoldo Franceschi is a bit richer and deeper than the straight Rosso, but the brightness of the vintage comes through just the same. Dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol and licorice add nuance to the textured, inviting finish. The Leopoldo Franceschi is a barrel selection made in the cellar and usually shows more oak influence than the straight Rosso. The 2013 is a big step up from the 2012 and absolutely delicious in its own right. Drinking window 2015-2025.
One of the best Rosso di Montalcinos of the vintage with orange peel, berry and light plum character. Medium body. Fruity and friendly finish. Drink now.
